How to stay healthy during the rainy season



The rainy season is upon us again and I love this season because I don’t have to worry about heat and the sun. However, with all the benefits attached to a rainy season, there are few dangers that can be harmful to one’s health.

Luckily, there are some measures we should take to ensure a good health condition during and after this season.

  1. Always wash your hands

This cannot be overemphasized because bacteria and viruses are more active during this season and you can easily come in contact with them.

So, wash your hands as often as you can with soap and warm water.

2. Protect yourself from dirty water

Flood, dirty puddles are a common sight we come across with during the rainy season. Unfortunately, these are sources of waterborne diseases e.g influenza, cholera, convenient diarrhea etc.

Covering up is the best way to protect yourself from these diseases. You can get a jacket and a pair of rain boots.

3. Avoid eating street food

Most times it is convenient to eat side road food but it is unhealthy, most especially during the rainy season.This is because most street foods are mostly cooked and sold in the open air and are likely to come in contact with the waterborne and airborne disease. Instead, eat fresh,home-cooked meal.

4. Take care of your environment

Make sure you clean the gutters to prevent mosquitoes.

5. Shower after being caught in the rain

It sounds unusual and uncomfortable because of the cold but taking a shower will protect you from infections.
