5 Important tips for a good mental health.


Most people are guilty of ignoring their mental health because they feel they are sane and they have no serious health illness. On the other hand, the truth is that a good mental health goes beyond the absence of a serious mental illness.This explains why one has to know the important tips to ensure a good mental health.

Here are the tips needed:

  1. Exercise and stay healthy

Exercise has a lot of benefit and one of such is that it helps to maintain a good mental health because your body is active and strong. Your body tends to function effectively which also include your brain because blood is circulating well to every part of your body and this ensures a good mental health. It also help to reduce depression and anxiety.

  1. Show gratitude always

When you show gratitude, it shows your positive side to life. This helps your mental health because it keeps you happy. Also, you can count your blessings and stay happy. It reduce tendency of staying angry, frustrated and falling into depression. So why not show gratitude to the things you see around you and people around you today and continue to enjoy a good mental health.

  1. Talk about your feelings to someone today

Like the saying goes, a problem shared is a problem half solved. Talking about your feelings isn’t a sign of weakness. Its part of taking charge of your wellbeing and doing what you can to stay healthy. We Africans are so use to keeping things to ourselves which later drives us crazy, which is not good for our mental health.

Talking can be a way to cope with a problem you’ve been carrying around in your head for a while. Just being listened to can help you feel supported and less alone. And it works both ways. If you open up, it might encourage others to do the same. It’s not always easy to describe how you’re feeling. If you can’t think of one word, use lots. What does it feel like inside your head? What does it make you feel like doing?

You don’t need to sit your loved ones down for a big conversation about your wellbeing. Many people feel more comfortable when these conversations develop naturally – maybe when you’re doing something together. If it feels awkward at first, give it time. Make talking about your feelings something that you do.

So, talk about your feelings this year and it will help your mental health.

  1. Eat healthy.

Your brain needs you to eat healthy food for it to function well. Food can also have a long-lasting effect on your mental health. Your brain needs a mix of nutrients to stay healthy and function well, just like the other organs in your body. Eat at least three meals each day and drink plenty of water. Try to limit how many high-caffeine or sugary drinks you have, and avoid too much alcohol.

A diet that’s good for your physical health is also good for your mental health.

  1. Take a break

A change of scene or a change of pace is good for your mental health. It could be a five-minute pause from cleaning your kitchen, a half-hour lunch break at work, or a weekend exploring somewhere new. A few minutes can be enough to de-stress you. Give yourself some ‘me time today.
